Northern Virginia News for November 21

So long Springfield Mall?  According to Fairfax Underground, a permit was processed yesterday by Fairfax County to demolish Springfield mall.  According to other forum users, it will be replaced with this.  

Take a trip out of Northern Virginia this weekend to the newly re-opened National Museum of American History, which had been closed since 2006.  Check out the DC Traveler for highlights.

For those of use who live in Northern Virginia and park at one of the many metro-operated parking lots everyday, be aware that parking will be free on inauguration day.  So if you have to work that day, you may want to make other arrangements to get to the Metro, since the parking garages may be full very early.   Details at WMATA.  (via Greater Greater Washington)

Read about Fairfax County’s Pedestrian Safety month, including pedestrian safety projects and initiatives.  Nothing overly earth shattering or creative, but it’s nice to know that local government is on the lookout for those of us to walk or bike.
